How can I travel from the West Coast of the US for the tour?

West Coast to Paris
Most flights leave the US in the afternoon or evening and arrive the next day in the morning, usually between 7:30 and 11:30 AM. Most people use the TGV (bullet train) to travel within France and it's easier if you're transporting your bike, as domestic airlines may charge you more for the extra luggage.

Paris Transfers (Airport to Train Stations/Hotels)
If you bring your own bicycle, the best way to transfer from CDG to the Montparnasse train station is via the express shuttle bus. Without a bicycle, you can also take a mini-van or the train/subway. More information...

Transfer to Sarlat
There are numerous TGVs traveling from Paris to Bordeaux. Some TGVs start directly from the International Airport while others start from Paris' Montparnasse train station. Some TGVs also stop in Libourne (view schedule).

From Bordeaux or Libourne there are 4 trains per day for Sarlat. We will provide train tables to participants as they become available.

The alternative would be to take one of the three daily trains from Paris to Souillac (on the line Paris to Toulouse). Then from Souillac you can take a bus to Sarlat (25km).

When do I need to plan to leave and return from the West Coast?

We recommend that you plan on spending your arrival night as well as the night before your departure in Paris. This way avoid problems due to a possible missed train, and will allow you to visit Paris. You may also want to spend a night in Bordeaux before your tour. It is one of France's most beautiful city and has recently been named the UNESCO Patrimonial city. The train from Bordeaux to Sarlat takes approximately 3 hrs. The last day of your tour, you should have no problem making the transfer to Paris via Bordeaux, Libourne or Souillac.
